Great people: Charles Perrault.

Charles Perrault was born on January 12, 1628, in Paris, France.


He became a writer. Perrault wrote many famous fairy tales, such as: “Cinderella”, or “The Little Glass Slipper”, “Puss in boots”, “Bluebeard”, and etc.


Charles Perrault died on May 16, 1703, in Paris, France.

Literature. Part seventy six.

                                            "Riquet with the Tuft" by Charles Perrault.

Once upon a time there was a Queen whose son was ugly, he had a tuft. But her son was very clever.

Several years later in another country two twin girls were born. One of them was beautiful, but stupid, another was ugly, but clever.

In the forest stupid princess met Riquet with the tuft. He was in love with the princess for her beauty. The prince asked the princess to marry him. Stupid princess said she would marry him in a year.

The princess gotten a lot smarter this year. All people were amazed about it. 

One year later she met Riquet with the tuft again. He was preparing for the wedding.

The princess understood that the ugly prince gave her mind. They were married. She saw Riquet's inner handsome qualities, such as: intelligence, manners, and behavior.

Literature. Part sixty eight.

                                                                "Bluebeard" by Charles Perrault.

Bluebeard was a wealthy man. He was married several times. But all his wives disappeared somewhere.

Women were afraid of him. They didn't want to marry him.

One neighboring girl decided to marry Bluebeard.

He had many different rooms in his house.

After wedding Bluebeard left to another place.

He gave his wife the keys to all the rooms. There was a room in the house that she couldn't enter.

The young woman was very curios. She opened that room, too. She saw bodies of his previous wives. The key was magical and stained with blood.

Bluebeard knew about all. He became angry and wanted to kill his wife. But relatives saved the young woman.

This fairy tale was translated to many languages. There are different performances about this story.

                                  Hop-o'-My-Thumb by Charles Perrault.

Once upon a time there lived a man and a woman. They had seven sons. The youngest son was a little as a thumb. Family was very poor.

Father left his children in the forest. But Tom Thumb (the youngest boy) helped his brothers. So, they returned home.

Then they were back in the forest. Children met a monster. Tom Thumb safed his brothers again!

Literature. Part four.

                          Toads and Diamonds by Charles Perrault.

Once upon a time lived a widow who had two daughters. The eldest was so much like mother in the face and temper. They were both so proud and disagreeable.

The youngest daughter was very pretty and sweetness of behavior, and beautiful.

Also, this poor child was forced twice a day to draw water above a mile, bring home a pitcher full of it.

One day there came a poor old woman to girl, who begged her drink some water (She was a fairy). Child scoopfulled some water from fountain and give it to a poor woman.

Fairy said to girl: "At every word you speak, there shall come out of your mouth either flowers or jewels.

When the youngest daughter came home and began to speak with her mother roses and pearls came out of her mouth.

Mother and sister were very surprised of it. Girl said them all truth.

Then Mom wanted that her eldest daughter thave roses and jewels too.

So she sent her to the fountain. Bad girl went to it with silver tankard.

Some time later she saw a lady most beautiful dressed. Who coming of the wood to her and asked to drink.

Bad girl say rude things and didn't give water this woman.

When she arrived home and began to speak with mother, toads and snakes came out of girl's mouth.

Mother striked her youngest daughter.

The poor child fled away in the forest. There she met king's son-prince. She said him about herself. He fell-in-love with girl. After a time they were married.

Literature. Part three.

          The master cat; or puss in boots by Charles Perrault.

Once upon a time lived a miller who left an inheritence to the three sons. He had his mill, an ass, and a cat. The partition was soon made. The eldest had the mill, the second the ass, and the youngest the cat.

The poor fellow was very grief because he had only cat. Then cat said: "Give me a pair of boots and bag." Cat's master give its his pet; the youngest son knew the cat enough cunning.

Cat went to the hunt and caught a rabbit. A take, cat give it to the king. King said: "Say thank you for your master." Cat said: "His name the Marquis of Carabas." Next time a take was brace of partridges. So cat went to the king for two or three months.

Marquis of Carabas wanted to make the acquaintance of the king and his daughter princess.

Cat gave an advise his master: "You can wash in river and cry "Help, me!""

One day, when king and his daughter took the air along the river-side they heared: "Help, me! I'm sinking!" It was the Marquis of Carabas. He was escaped.

The king immediately commanded the officer off his wardrobe to run and fetch one of his suit for the Marquis of Carabas. They three together drow in carriage. (King thought that the Lord Marquis of Carabas had a castle).

Cat who went still before, met reapers and said to them: "Good people, if you don't tell the king that all this corn belongs to the Marquis of Carabas, you shall be chopped as small as herbs for the corn."

When king, his daughter and the Lorn Marquis of Carabas asked reapers that are fields. They said: "Its fields Marquis of Carabas."

In castle lived a big orge. Puss in boots asked him: "Can you turn into a lion?" So orge became a big evil lion. Cat was very afraid.

But next, cat asked him turn into a little animal, example mouse. A Big ogre became a mouse and cat suddenly ate it.

On next day in castle was a wedding. Marquis of Carabas and princess married and lived long and happily.
