 Jules Gabriel Verne was born on February 8, 1828, in Nantes, France. His Parents were Pierre Verne and Dame Sophie Marie Adélaïde Julienne Allotte de La Fuÿe. Jules Verne had several siblings.

When he was a young man he started writing texts. Verne had different styles in it. Also, he studied in Paris.

Jules Verne met with other writers. 

He wrote many books. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), Around the World in Eighty Days (1872) Journey to the Centre of the Earth (1864) From the Earth to the Moon (1865).

Jules Verne used science fiction genre for his literary works. Characters in the books has different adventures.

Verne visited many places. He married in 1857. Jules Verne had a son.

His novels were translated to many languages. There are movies about these stories.

George Bernard Shaw was born on July 26, 1856 in Dublin, Ireland. His parents were George Carr Shaw and Lucinda Elizabeth Shaw. Also, he had two older sisters.

Shaw became a playwright and critic. He wrote many novels and plays. Cashel Byron's Profession (1882), Caesar and Cleopatra (1898), Pygmalion (1913).



George Bernard Shaw visited different cities and countries. He had Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925, as well as Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1939.



George Shaw married in 1898 to Charlotte Payne-Townshend.

Shaw's quotes and aphorisms became famous, too.

George Bernard Shaw died on November 2, 1950 in England.

Great people: O. Henry.

William Sydney Porter was born on September 11, 1862, Greensboro, North Carolina. His mother died when William was just three years old. Father's relatives taught little boy.

After school William Porter worked as a pharmacist. Also, he worked in a bank.

In 1887 William Sydney Porter married first time with Athol Estes. They had a daughter Margaret.

In 1890s he wrote and became a writer. William Porter's pen name is O. Henry.


O. Henry's novellas and short stories have humor and irony. For example, "The Gift of the Magi". Sad and happy Christmas story. He wrote many interesting short stories and novels such as: "The Last Leaf", Cabbages and Kings, "The Ransom of Red Chief", and etc. All were written with simple English language.


In 1907 writer married second time with Sara Lindsay Coleman.

O. Henry many did for American and world literature. Writer's life was hard but interesting. He died on June 5, 1910, in New York.

Tragedy.

Tragedy is the exact opposite of comedy. This literary genreis popular, too. Tragedy is a very serious genre. Poems, novels, or short stories. have very sad endings. People want to cry. The main characters can die.

This genre has a long history. Thragedy appeared in Ancient Greece. Then writers wrote sad myths. Actors played sad roles in theatres.

For example, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a famous tragedy. There are many pictures to this story. It is studied by students in schools.

In movies, tragedy is also popular as genre. People can cry at the end of film in cinema ar at home. It shows a good work of actors and the right scripts.

A sad mask is a symbol of tragedy. But sometimes somedy and tragedy are mixed in one book or movie.

P.S. Next time will be another literary genre which has comedy and tragedy parts.

Essay.

Essay is one of the types of proze. Students often write it on classes. Essay can be on any topic; autobiography, finished book, picture, experience from life. Articles in newspapers and magazines are also essays.

Today, when we live in the Internet age, you can find a lot of essays on websites. But not all of them are true. It's very important to be able to write it. Through essays, we learn to express our thoughts in writing.

Many of the great and classical novels begin with simple works. Then these books were filmed into movies. It doesn't always work well to write for the first time. So, many writers and screenwriters rewrite their essays. Patience in writing is the importance of quality. Essay can be written by hand or typed on the computer.

At schools and colleges teachers often tell pupils and students how to write an essay. How many words and pages should be written.

P.S. The ability to write an essayis useful even for writing a simple letter.
