Great people: Robert Louis Stevenson.

Robert Lewis Balfour Stevenson was born on November 13, 1850, in Edinburgh, Scotland. 


He was a writer. Stevenson studied in University of Edinburgh.

Treasure Island (1883), A Child's Garden of Verses (1885), and Kidnapped (1886) were his notable works.


Robert Louis Stevenson had a wife.

He died on December 3, 1894, in Vailima, Upolu, Samoa.

Daniel Defoe or Daniel Foe was born in 1660, in London, England. He was an English writer.


Robinson Crusoe was an English adventure novel by Daniel Defoe. It was published in 1719.


Defoe had a wife and children.

He died on April 24, 1731, in London, England.

Several children fought for a magical stone, Stormumriken.

They met with other people. Also, different adventures happened with the characters.

This is a fantasy novel. Jonatan and Karl are brothers. Karl had an ill.

After death they go to Nangijala. There the boys have different adventures. They meet with other people in this place.

                                                  The Road by Jack London.

This book was published in 1907.

The autobiography described life in the United States in the nineties of the XIX century.

The characters are in different situations. They ride freight trains.

Also, characters visited many parts of the country. They encountered difficult moments, but the characters solved them. They had adventures, too.

                                   The Six Bullerby Children by Astrid Lindgren.

In Swedish little village there are three houses. Here children live with their parents. There are only six children.

Lisa is a character and narrator. She tells about different life moments and adventures.

Lisa has two older brothers named Lasse and Bosse. Also, in the village, there are two sisters Britta and Anna. And boy Olle and his younger sister Kerstin.

Literature. Part seventy five.

                                      The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas.

This historical novel was written in XIX century, by Alexandre Dumas père. 

A man named d'Artagnan went to Paris to become a musketeer. Also, he had friends named Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. They were the musketeers.

During the book characters had many different adventures. The novel mentions both real historical characters and fictional characters.

They had travels in other places. D'Artagnan and the three musketeers met with different people. They met both common and royal people.

Duels, love, and adventures are described in the book. 

This novel was translated to many languages. There are different movies and cartoons about this story. Artists created illustrations for this book.

                                             Ivanhoe: A Romance by Walter Scott.

This historical novel was written in XIX century. The author described lives of people in the Middle Ages in detail. It helps to understand history of England and other European countries.

The book tells the real historical events of that time. Knights and kings have many different adventures. Also, there are jester, lady, prince, and etc.

Characters have relationships with each other. They visited neighboring countries. Religion is described in novel, too.

This book was released in 1819. Ivanhoe: A Romance sparked interest with Medieval time. It influenced to romanticism and Gothic Revival architecture.

There are many illustrations to this novel. The book was translated to other languages.

Great people: Jules Verne.

 Jules Gabriel Verne was born on February 8, 1828, in Nantes, France. His Parents were Pierre Verne and Dame Sophie Marie Adélaïde Julienne Allotte de La Fuÿe. Jules Verne had several siblings.

When he was a young man he started writing texts. Verne had different styles in it. Also, he studied in Paris.

Jules Verne met with other writers. 

He wrote many books. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), Around the World in Eighty Days (1872) Journey to the Centre of the Earth (1864) From the Earth to the Moon (1865).

Jules Verne used science fiction genre for his literary works. Characters in the books has different adventures.

Verne visited many places. He married in 1857. Jules Verne had a son.

His novels were translated to many languages. There are movies about these stories.

Jules Verne died on March 24, 1905, in Amiens, France.

Literature. Part fifty seven.

                                        "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" by Hans Christian Andersen.

A boy had a birthday gift, set of toy soldiers. One of them didn't have a leg. During the night all toys in the room became alive.

Soldier with one leg fell in love with paper dancer woman. But evil goblin didn't want for them love to each other. So, because of him the tin soldier fell out of the window.

His adventures started on the street. The boys found the soldier with one leg and set him in a paper boat. Afterwards, a storm started and the soldier met the rat.

At the end the tin soldier was swallowed by a fish. But he was found and returned to the room again.

The soldier with one leg fell in the fireplace. Paper woman flew in it, too. Sad end of the fairy tale.

This fairy tale was translated to many languages. There are many cartoons and illustrations about this story.

Literature. Part fifty two.

                                                      Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne.

This book was written in 1926. It consists many short stories about animals. Main character is a teddy bear named Winnie-the-Pooh. He had friends, such as: Piglet (pig), Eeyorl (donkey), Owl, Rabbit, Kanga and her son Roo (kangaroo), and Tigger (tiger). They are different. Owl and Rabbit are live animals, other toys.

Christopher Robin is a young boy who be friends with Winnie-the-Pooh and other animals. Many different adventures happened with characters. They are situated in the forest.

There are many bright illustrations to this children's literature. Famous book was translated to many languages. Cartoons and movies were created about the teddy bear and other animals.

Literature. Part forty six.

                          The Ingenious Nobleman Sir Quixote of La Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes.

Novel Don Quixote has two parts. This book was written in the XVII century. This literary work became popular.

Don Quixote and Sancho Panza travelled. Don Quixote became a knight and wanted to do feats. But he and Sancho Panza had a lot of adventures. They met windmills and a flock of sheep.

People were laughting at him. Don Quixote had problems, too, It was described with humour and irony.

At the end main character died of sadness.

This novel was translated to many languages. There are movies and cartoons about this story.

Literature. Part forty four.

                                      Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.

This book was written in XIX century. There were very different characters in it. Jim Hawkins was the main character. Long John Silver, Dr. David Livesey, Captain Alexander Smollet were main characters, too.

Friends had voyage in the sea. On the way they met pirates. Other adventures happened with them on the island.

At the end characters returned home with treasures. They used them.

Famous adventure novel was translated to many languages. There are many movies and cartoons created about this story. Artists draw pictures of it.

Literature. Part forty one.

                                          Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne.

This is a famous sciece fiction novel. It became classic in literature. French writer Jules Verne wrote his book in XIX century.

People noticed unusual creature in the ocean. Different mass media and scientists were interested in this monster.

Professor Pierre Aronnax, Conseil, and Ned Land decided to find this creature in the ocean. So, they appeared on the submarine named Nautilus.

Also, voyagers met there Captain Nemo or Prince Dakkar. He was captain of this submarine. Characters visited many different oceans and had a lot of adventures.

Novel was translated on many languages. There are many movies and cartoons about this story.

Great people: Gerald Durrell.

Gerald Malcolm Durrell was born on January 7, 1925, Jamshedpur, British India. He was the youngest child of Lawrence Samuel and Louisa Durrells. Gerald's father died when he was just three years old.

In 1935 family moved from Britain to the Greek island Corfu. Gerald Durrell lived in village with his mother, two brothers Lawrence and Leslie, and sister Margaret. Also, boy loved animals.

My family and Other Animals is a book about Durrell's childhood. The book has a lot of humor and irony. Family had different adventures. This is my favourite book by Gerald Durrell.

Writer wrote other books such as: The Mockery Bird, The Donky Rustlers, The Fantastic Dinosaur Adventure, and etc.

Durrell was married two times. His first wife wrote a book. Gerald Durrell died on January 30, 1995, Saint Halier, Jersey.

Literature. Part twenty four.

                                The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.

Tom Sawyer is an orphan. He lives with his Aunt and brother. The boy has homeless friend Huckleberry Finn. Also, Tom likes his girl classmate, Becky (Rebecca) Thatcher.

During this novel characters have a lot of interesting situations and adventures. Children don't worry about their own life.

At the end, they all become happy and save.

There are many cartoons and movies about this story. Students study The Adventures of Tom Sawyer book at school, during the literature class.

Tom Sawyer one of the most popular characters in the world.
