Midas.

Midas (Μίδας) was a king of Phrygia in Greek myths and legends. Gordias (Γορδίας) and Cybele (Κυβέλη) were his adopted parents.

He had donkey ears.

Midas met with other mythical characters, such as: Orpheus, Silenus (Σειληνός), Dionysus, and etc.

He had a special gift: everything he touched turned to gold. Then Midas got rid of this gift.

Tales from childhood: Fall harvest.

Every fall in the village people were harvesting fruits and vegetables. Sophie liked a lot of them. Sometimes there were so many tomatoes that these vegetables were handed out to neighbors. Vegetables were very big. It was hard for Sophie to carry them. The weight of one tomato was 600 grams!

Sometimes there were so many tomatoes that these vegetables were handed out to neighbors. Sophie's granny shared with people. And the neighbors shared with them, too.

"It's good that we have a big harvest," Sophie said.

"Yes, it's very good." the grandmother said.

Little Sophie was proud that she could share vegetables with others, but she didn't tell anyone about it.

People received great joy when they gave and received as a gift fruits and/or vegetables.

Red ripe tomatoes, strawberries and other berries, potatoes in the ground, orange carrots, cherries on the tree. Sophie saw this ripe harvest. Also, there were butterflies, beetles, warms, and even birds in the garden. She watched this , because it was interesting!

All this grew in the garden of Sophie and her grandmother.

Tales from childhood: Important qualities.

Lara's father was a strange man. He did many strange things. When little Sophie saw him she had these thoughts. It was Sophie's opinion.

His new wife was a very good person. She was often used as an example to his ex-wife. Since early childhood the girls were competitors. Lara's stepmother had good qualities for a successful life.

During school years she visited sport section. Also, her grades were very good.

"Look how well she does everything!" said teachers and parents.

These words really hurt Lara's mother. So, she didn't like her. Sometime they were just neighbors. Later the girls became classmates. It only increased the competition between them.

But when Sophie and Natalie talked with Lara's stepmother, they understood several things. This young woman knew how to listen to other people. She never interrupted anyone.

The woman with wrinkles around the eyes. These lines only appeared when she was smiling and laughing. Lara's stepmother had a good sense of humor.

Little Sophie and her best friend Natalie liked her for generosity. The kind woman treated children in the yard and their friends for every holiday.

Stepmother gave gifts for her stepdaughter. On Christmas she knitted a warm sweater for Lara.

Sophie thought that maybe the husband loves his wife precisely for these qualities.

Tales from childhood: Our heroes!

Sophie felt the lights of a sun on her face. She woke up after a long sleep. Little Sophie thought about Victory Day.

It was a spring morning. Sophie went to school with red flowers. It was a gift for veterans.

“Give flowers to strange people! It’s strange!” a stupid boy said.

“These people gave a peace for us,” the teacher said.

Little Sophie and Johnny went to congratulate a veteran. This old woman worked in a school. She was short and her position was modest. But the veteran went through the whole war! She worked and fought.

“Congratulations!” the children said.

The school worker was very glad! It was important for her. She smiled.

During break time high school students cared for the veterans. Little Sophie and her classmates saw them in Assembly Hall.

Also, children told about their grandparents. Little Sophie was proud of her granny.

Next day Sophie visited a parade in her town.  She understood many serious things.

“I think that veterans accomplished a feat,” little Sophie said.

“Yes, it’s true,” Sophie’s mother said.

Literature. Part nine.

"The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry

Jim and Della are young spouses. So, on Christmas Eve they decided to make a gift to each other. Couple had less than two dollars. Main family treasures are Della's brown hair and Jim's old watch.

Della sold her hair and bought a platinum chain for husband's watch; Jim sold his watch and bought several combs with tortoise shell for wife's hair.

At the end they embraced and put oof their Christmas gifts. It's sad. But they tried to one another. It's happy.

My own poem.

                             Bouquet in vase.

Flowers in vase,
Stay on the window
Were grown in the field,
On the ground and among green grass.

But once upon a time
A good boy,
Ripped off several beautiful flowers,
And made from them a bouquet.

His mother was so glad
For this gift.
Because boy decided to make
A surprise for his main woman.
