Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi was an Italian sculptor. He was born in 1386, in Republic of Florence.


Donatello worked with different materials for his sculptors.



Renaissance was Donatello's movement.

He died on December 13, 1466, in Republic of Florence.

Great people: Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Gian Lorenzo Bernini was an Italian architecture. Also, he created sculptures. Gian Lorenzo Bernini was born on November 7, 1598, in Naples.

His movement was Baroque style.

Apollo and Daphne (1622-1625), Ecstasy of Saint Teresa (1647-1652), David (1623-1624) are Bernini’s works.

He died on November 29, 1680, in Rome.

Metaphor.

Metaphor (μεταφορά) is a figure of speech. It means "transference" from ancient Greek language. Phrases sound with other words. The meaning doesn't change, only the words change.

Metaphors usually sound like comparisons to something. It adds interest to the speech.

Artists and writers commonly use metaphors in their work. Also, there are metaphorical situations in movies and cartoons.

Sometimes people use this figure of speech in conversation.

Allegory.

Allegory (ἀλληγορία) (allegoria) is a type of artistic literary form. This word means "veiled language, figurative" from Greek language.

It shows a specific situation in a figurative sense. An allegory is like a metaphor.

This genre is popular in various art forms, such as: poetry, prose, painting, and etc.

Allegory was at different times and in different countries.

Many authors use this artistic genre for their works.

Great people: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born on August 28, 1749, in the Holy Roman Empire. His parents were Johann Caspar Goethe and Katharina Elisabeth Goethe.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a German writer. He studied in universities. His famous works: “Prometheus” (1772-1774), Faust (1774-1831), Wilhelm Meister’s Apprenticeship (1795), and etc.

Goethe had a wife and children.

He died on March 22, 1832, in the German Confederation.

Constantinople.

 Constantinople (Κωνσταντινούπολις) (Constantinopolis) was the capital of the Byzantine Empire, the Latin Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and the Roman Empire in different periods.

In ancient times this place was a port city. Because Byzas from the Greek city of Megara created a settlement on the strait of Bosporus. On the strait the Mediterranean Seas and the Black Sea connected. He was the legendary founder of this city.

Later there were many rulers who controlled Constantinople. The Spartans, Athenians, Macedonians, and Persians fought for power.

Emperor Constantine I made a capital at Byzantium called "New Rome".

The Hagia Sophia is a famous architectural design work. This church was built by Justinian I. About six years 10, 000 workers created this building.

Constantinople saw different rulers and events. People with many religions visited this city.

In XIII century, Constantinople fell. It was in April 1204.

But this city kepts its history and buildings.

Great people: Euclid.

 Euclid (Εὐκλείδης) was a mathematician in ancient Greece. Euclid of Alexandria was born in mid-4th century BC.

Also, he was known as the "father of geometry". Because Euclid made many things for this science.



He lived in Alexandria. Euclid created many different works about mathematics, algebra, and geometry. There is Euclidean geometry.



Now Euclid's works studied in schools and universities. 

Euclid, the Greek mathematician died in mid-3rd century BC.

Tales from childhood: Art teacher.

Sophie liked the art lessons in her school. Children drew beautiful paintings. Also, they created figures from clay. Little Sophie liked these lesssons and their teacher. Young talented woman taught children to draw. The whole class had good grades.

But suddenly this teacher moved to different school. Sophie and her classmates became sad. A new teacher was strict. He criticized children's works often. The girl worried about it. She remembered young talented teacher.

A week later old Sophie's teacher of art has returned. All children in the class were happy! Sophie began to appreciate it more.

Great people: Vincent van Gogh.

Vincent Willem van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853, in Zudert, Netherlands. He was a son of Theodorus van Gogh and Anna Cornelia Cerbentus.

Future artist studied at Academie Royale des Beaux-Arts, in Brussels, Belgium.

Anton Mauve was very influenced Vincent van Gogh.

The artist had his own style named Post-Impressionism. Also, he used genres such as: portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. Van Gogh made his paintings with oil. Vincent van Gogh's famous works were, Sunflowers (1887), The Starry Night (1889), Portrait of Dr. Grochet (1890).

Vincent van Gogh did important things for arts of XIX century. He died on July 29, 1890, in Auvers-sur-Oise, France.

Great people: Michelangelo.

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was born on March 6, 1475 in Italy. His mother died when he was just six years old. Little Michelangelo Buonarroti lived with nanny.

Since early childhood he was interested in arts. Several years later Michelangelo became a sculptor, artist, poet, and architect.


Michelangelo Buonarroti made many famous High Renaissance works. For example, he painted The Creation of Adam. Also, Michelangelo created famous statue David. Architect designed St. Peter's Basilica with other people in Rome.



Artist made important things for history, rococo style, and XIV century. Michelangelo Buonarroti died on February 18, 1564 in Rome, Italy.

Great people: Oscar Wilde.

Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde was born on October 16, 1854 in the capital of Ireland, Dublin. He was the second child of Sir William and Jane Wilde.

In early childhood Oscar studied French and German languages. He had talent for reading and writing. Also, Oscar Wilde successfully finished school.

After he got his education in Trinity College in Dublin and Magdalen College in Oxford. Wilde wrote different literature genres: short story, novel, drama, and fairy tale. Famous works: The Picture of Dorian Gray (1891) and The Happy Prince and Other Tales (1888).

On May 29, 1884, Oscar Wilde married Constance Lloyd. Spouses had two sons, Cyril and Vyvyan.


Oscar Wilde was sent to prison from May 25, 1895 to May 19, 1897. For his own beliefs.


Writer died on November 30, 1900 in Paris, France.

Great people: Leonardo da Vinci.

Leonardo da Vinci was born on April15, 1452, in Vinci, Republic of Florence. His parents were Piero Fruosino di Antonio da Vinci and Caterina.

Leonardo was a very kind and talented person. He was interested in arts, science, music, literature, and etc.

Artist often drew portraits of people. Simple and saints were the heroes of his works. Mona Lisa or Gioconda is the most popular painting in the world.

But Leonardo da Vinci made many other masterpieces. For example, Benois Madonna or Madonna and Child with Flowers, Portrait of a man in Red Chalk or Self Portrait of Leonardo da Vinci, St. John the Baptist, Codex on the Flight of Birds.

This man was a genius. Leonardo's paintings are full of mysteries. For instance, Madonna Litta was painted in XV century. Woman and baby were on a high floor of the building.

He made many important inventions for human history. Leonardo da Vinci died on May 2, 1519 in Amboise, kingdom of France.
