Medea.

Medea was the goddess in Greek mythology. Her father was king Aeetes of Colchis. Medea had a husband named Jason.

One legend says that the goddess killed her own sons. Perhaps, it was revenge to Jason.

Also, she had relations with other gods and goddesses. There are many paintings and statues of Medea.

Tales from childhood: An important visit.

Granny talked with little Sophie about visiting a dentist. They had to visit this doctor on the next week. It's necessary to check the health of teeth.

Child worried about an important visit because she didn't know what would be there.

On that day Sophie was nervous. She remembered that Johnny said, "it doesn't hurt at all."

When she opened her mouth, doctor checked Sophie's teeth. Afterwards the dentist said that she take care of them.

Child saw her grandmother in the hall. Sophie was very happy and fearless after this visit.

Centaur.

Centaur is a creature in Greek mythology. It's a hybrid of a human and a horse.

Centaurs can be good or evil. Also, they are popular in fantasy.

Many heroes were friends and enemies with these creatures. For example, Chiron was a teacher of Achilles.

There are many pictures and statues, myths and legends about Centaurs.

Tales from childhood: Safety, safety, safety!

Anne, Kate, and Sophie liked roller skating very much. Girls skate on roller sketers after school. But children often forgot about helmet and other protective things.

Kate fell and hit her head. She started crying. Anne run away for adults, Sophie stayed with her hurted friend.

Right here appeared Anne and Kate's mother. They took the child to the doctor. In the hospital the wound was treated. Also, nurse and Kate's mother reminded her about helmet.

So, Anne, Kate, and Sophie always wore helmet and other protective things, if they go roller skating.

Tales from childhood: New things and people.

On Monday morning Sophie visited school. In the classroom she saw middle-aged woman talking to the teacher. Johnny's face was grinning.

Women talked to each other until the end of the first lesson. They talked about books and study. Suddenly the teacher left class.

Little Sophie felt a lump in the throat and wanted to cry. Middle-aged woman said that she is a new teacher.

Children couldn't understand this situation. They are used to another person. Sophie even shed a few tears on her school desk.

In the evening child told granny about it. She supported granddaughter and remembered about new things.

But month later children in this class became gentle and had better marks. Little Sophie understood changes in her life.

Theatre.

Theatre is a type of performance art. Actors and actresses must pla their characters.

This type of art appeared in Ancient Greece. Drama, comedy, and tragedy came from theatre.

People can see actors on the scene. Literary works often play in the theatre. Puppets are sometimes used there.

Future actors study to dancing, singing, playing, express emotions, play on the musical instruments, and etc. Costumes and make-up are important part of the theatre. Because people must see and feel the reality of what is happening.

French Revolution.

French Revolution was an important period for France since May 5, 1789 to November 9, 1799.

Many things changed in this country. Timeline of the French Revolution: The Revolution Begins (1789), the Rise of Political Clubs (1790), Fight the Royal Family (1791), Defeat the monarchy (1792), Trial of Louis XVI (1793), Robespierre os overthrown (1794), The Directory Changes the Convention (1795), Fail uprising in Paris (1796), Cisalpine Republic is established (1797), Battle of the Nile (1798), Napoleon leaves Egypt (1799).

Also, in this time appeared famous phrase "Let them eat cake" by Queen Marie Antoinette.

Great people: Ludwig van Beethoven.

Ludwig van Beethoven was born on December 1, 1770, in Bonn, Westphalia. He was the son of Johan van Beethoven and Maria Magdalena Keverich.

Since childhood future composer played different musical instruments, including piano and violin.


Beethoven studied and worked in Vienna. During this time he wrote famous classical music compositions. "Fur Elise",  Moonlight Sonata, and Symphony No. 5 became very popular in music. Many of Ludwig van Beethoven's works were played on different musical instruments.


Composer taught other people, too. Beethoven died on March 26, 1827, in Vienna, Austrian Empire.

Literature. Part forty.

                                           Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe.

This famous novel was published on April 25, 1719, in the United Kingdom. Author said that his book was an allegory.

Young Robinson Crusoe wanted to travel to the sea. He met a lot of adventures on his way. After shipwreck Robinson appeared on the deserted island. He lived there for twenty eight years.

Character did different things for his life. Also, Robinson Crusoe met a tribe of cannibals. He saved one man from them and called him "Friday". They became friends

At the end Robinson was saved and returned home.

There are many illustrations and movies about this story. Novel was translated different languages.

Recipe of homemade coconut cookies.

Ingredients:

Flour-50 g
Coconut flour-50 g
Eggs-3
Sugar-50 g
Butter-20 g
Sour cream-80 g
Baking powder-1 tea spoon
Salt-1/3 tea spoon


Mix in one bowl sugar, salt, and eggs.



After add butter and sour cream. 


Mix it in one bowl.


Also, add coconut flour, simple flour, and baking powder. And mix.




Make a round form of dough and bake at 300 F (150 C) about 30 minutes.
