Tales from childhood: A real fairy tale.

Sophie wanted to celebrate New Year with her cousin Caroline and best friend Natalie. Adults give a permission for this holiday party.

All girls met at Natalie's apartment. She had a big room. So, at the New Year's Eve children made a lot of interesting things. Sophie remembered school Christmas performance and played a princess. Caroline was a queen, Natalie was a fairy.

In the evening they had a great dinner. It was very delicious!

Several hours later Caroline fell asleep on the sofa. But Sophie and Natalie waited until midnight. Children were very tired and fell asleep quickly.

In the morning girls woke up and found... gifts on the table and Christmas tree! Soft toys and beautiful clothes! Sophie thought that it was Santa Claus.

Children went home with their new things and their parents were very glad.

Tales from childhood: Cold and warm.

Mother and granny decided to celebrate Christmas in their village. They have their own house. During the holiday the weather was cold. Snow and ice were on the street.

Sophie and her grandmother waited for guests at their Christmas dinner. Christmas Eve is an important holiday. When Caroline appeared in the house Sophie was very glad. She arrived with her mother.

It was cold in the house but granny chopped wood for the fireplace. Mother cooked Christmas dinner for all.

Sophie and Caroline had a nice free time. Girls played with each other. The TV showed holiday movies and cartoons.

During the dinner little Sophie felt that the house got warmer. Logs burned in the fireplace. The weather still wintery outside.

Capture and bring back Cerberus.

Cerberus was a three-headed dog. This monster was guarding entrance the land of the dead. Eurystheus sent Heracles to captue this mythical animal.

Hermes and Athena helped Zeus's son with his labour. In that time Heracles was in the underworld.

Hero showed Cerberus to Eurystheus and brought it back. After twelfth labour Eurystheus let Heracles go.

So, Heracles did his last labour.

Steal the apples of the Hesperides.

Eurystheus asked Heracles to bring the golden apples. These fruits were in the Garden of the Hesperides. The Hesperides were nymphs of evening. Also, they were seven sisters.

During the way Zeus's son met a lot of different mythology characters. One of them, King Busiris, in Egypt.

At the end when Heracles went to the Garden of the Hesperides, he took the golden apples. It was the eleventh labour of Heracles.

Obtain the cattle of the monster Geryon.

Geryon was a big giant, who lived on the island of Erytheia. Monster had several lion paws and dragon wings.

Heracles must take his cattle to Eurystheus. Zeus's son killed two-headed dog Orthrus and herdsman Eurytion. Hero shot Geryon with one arrow.

Eurystheus received the cattle from Heracles.

So, Zeus's son did his tenth labour.

Lighthouse of Alexandria.

Lighthouse of Alexandria, also known as Pharos of Alexandria, was located in Egypt. The lighthouse was built from 280 to 247 BC. Building's height was more than 100 metres (394 feet), range 47 kilometers (29 miles).

Alexander the Great founded this city and people made lighthouse for him. Lighthouse of Alexandria was very large and people saw it from 50 kilometers away.

But in XIV century lighthouse was almost destroyed by the earthquake.

Tales from childhood: Good deeds.

It was a simple winter evening. Sophie was reading fairy tales in her comfortable room. Grandmother was knitting socks for her granddaughters. Snowfall became very strong and temperature fell to -15 C (5 F).

Next day little Sophie and granny decided to walk because the sky was blue. But... roads became very slippery.

Suddenly girl and old woman saw that somebody laid on the slippery ice. Middle-aged woman slipped and fell on the way.

So, grandmother understood that this person needs a doctor. Ambulance appeared several minutes later. Sophie helped woman, too. She gave her a hand with granny.

Two weeks later, in Sophie's school, a woman came from the road. She said a lot of thanks words to teacher and Sophie. All classmates were glad that children can help, too.

Also, woman's injuries almost healed.

Colossus of Rhodes.

The statue of the Ancient Greek god of the sun Helias, was on the Greek island of Rhodes. This island was situated in the Aegean Sea.

Sculptor Chares of Lindos started building this work in 292 B.C. for a period of twelve years. Statue was made from iron, clay, and bronze. Its height was about 36 metres (100 feet). Colossus of Rhodes appeared in 20 B.C.

But fifty four years later, in 226 B.C., earthquake occured on the island. So, sixth Wonder of the Ancient World was damaged.

Obtain the girdle of Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons.

Heracles must have the girdle, for Admete, Eurystheus's daughter.

During this labour Zeus's son had a fight with other Amazons. The goddess Hera became an Amazon and was among them, too. At the end Heracles killed Hippolyta and had a girdle for Admete.

So, Heracles did his ninth labour.

Great people: Mahatma Gandhi.

Mahandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in India. His parents were Karamchand Uttamchand Gandhi and Putlibai.

Future politician married Kasturbai Makhanji Kapadia. Afterwards, he wanted to fight for Independence of his Motherland, India.

Mahatma Gandhi lived in South African for twenty one years. He fought against injustice in this country.

Also, Gandhi saw First World War and Second World War. In 1942 he was arrested. Two years later his wife Kasturbai died.

On Junuary 30, 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated, in New Delhi, India.

Phoenicia.

Phoenicia was an ancient civilization in the Mediterranean Sea. Name of this country is translated from the Ancient Greek language as the "land of palm trees".

Country had its own important things for history. For example, in 334 B.C.E. Alexander the Great came in Phoenicia and conquered Baalbek.

Also, civilization had kings and cities. Ahiram (c. 1000), Hiram I (969-936 B. C.), Pygmalion of Tyre (820-774 B. C.). People in Phoenicia had Phoenician and Punic languages. Canaanite was the religion in this country.

Ancient civilization had trades with other ancient countries, such as: Egypt and Greece.

Recipe of homemade fruit cake with apples and strawberries.


Ingredients:

Flour-450 g
Sugar-300 g
Sour cream-100 g
Eggs-2
Mayonnaise-1 table spoon
Butter-100 g
Salt-1/3 tea spoon
Baking powder-1 tea spoon
Apples-2
Strawberries-150 g

Mix in one bowl: flour, sugar, eggs, salt, baking powder, sour cream, mayonnaise, and butter. Peel and cut apples into slices. After put to the butter and sugar. Fry and stir fruits about 5 minutes. Cut strawberries into slices, too.

Add apples and berries to the dough.

Warm up the oven 218 C (425 F). Bake the dessert about 30 minutes 204 C (400 F) in the oven. Leave fruit cake for several hours. Later you can enjoy it!

Literature. Part thirty three.

                                             The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi.

Geppetto was a woodcarver. He had a piece of wood. Poor woodcarver decided to make a marionette named Pinocchio.

So, Mister Geppetto became a father of this marionette.

If Pinocchio told a lie his nose would grow. The magical fairy appeared in this book. He met a lot of friends and enemies during the novel.

Animals and people can talk to each other. The Talking Cricket, said many important things to Pinocchio.

At the end the main character became a real boy. There are many movies and cartoons about this story.

Mausoleum at Halicarnassus.

The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, also known as Tomb of Mausolus was built about IV century B. C. This building was situated in modern Turkey.

Mausolus and his wife Artemisia II were clients for tis tomb. Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was opened in 351 B. C. Building's heigh was about 45 m (148 ft). Tomb of Mausolus was an example of Classical architecture.

In XIII century fifth Wonder of the Ancient World was damaged by earthquake. So, only ruins survived.

Steal the Mares of Diomedes.

When Heracles captured the Cretan Bull, he was sent by Eurystheus. Zeus's son must steal Mares of Thrace. Man-eating horses were very beautiful animals.

Heracles had a battle with Diomedes. He won this fight.

Also, Heracles lost abderos during his eighth labour. So, appeared Abdera city.

At the end Zeus's son let the mythical horses go to the mountains.

It was the eighth labour of Heracles.

Tales from childhood: Always think about repercussions.

During the first brake Anton and Johnny played with ball. Suddenly in the classsroom Johnny appereared with tears on his face. Boy had a serious arm injury. The teacher took Johnny to the doctor. Several minutes later the child appeared with nurse and gypsum.

Second lesson school teacher talked to the pupils about this accident. Sophie didn't see it but she was very attentive. At the end Anton understood what happened. Teacher talked about the responsibility for own actions. All children including little Sophie had an important lesson for their future life.

Next day Sophie passed by room of the principal and saw Mr. Theodor with Johnnyy and Anton with his parents.

Tales about childhood: Relatives and friends.

Sophie is going to live in a village for two weeks. Her cousin Caroline invited the girl to the guest. Granny was ready for this important moment.

When little Siphie arrived to the place, she felt fear and independence. On the wayy the girl saw a lot of new landscapes, nature can be very different.

Caroline and her mother took care of Sophie. She was happy about her trip but she understood that she will miss without grandmother and best friend Natalie. Sophie's room in apartment is empty, too. Just books and toys stay there.

Two weeks later Sophie's relatives thanked her for help in the garden.

When girl arrived to her home she saw granny, mother, and Natalie. It was real happy for Sophie!

Next time Caroline would visited little Sophie.

Tales from childhood: A new start.

Sophie finished 1-"A" grade in elementary school. Several classmates left her class. They will study in a different place. May be girl will miss without them.

Teacher said 'Have a nice summer holiday'. Children had different faces; some of them were sad, some were happy.

Suddenly little Sophie felt pain in her throat. School teacher's speech was so pleasant! But she didn't cry.

At the end of lesson Johnny said that he was very touched, too. Sophie was glad that she could find a person with similar feelings.

Mr. Theodor was proud for his son. Because Johnny finished 1-"A" grade. Sophie's grandmother told her granddaughter about a new start in 2-"A" grade in elementary school.

Tales from childhood: Proud for friends.

In school, sports games will soon begin. Sophie will participate in her 1-"A" grade. Other pupils worried and trained before sport games.

Little children must run very fast and catch a ball. If class wins, teacher gives big presents to all.

Sophie played with another girl from 1-"B" grade. Kate very tried despite the fact she was weak during physical education.

During boys competition, Johnny fell on the floor. Children in 1"A" grade and their teacher loudly supported him. The whole gym heard it. So, boy got up and became a leader.

At the end 1-"A" grade wins these sport games. Sophie was very happy about this event in her school year. In the classroom they had big golden cup. Every child in Sophie's grade received their own awards; medals and acclaiming lists.

Also, boys and girls had a party with tea, juices, pies, cookies, and chocolate sweets. Sophie all time felt proud for her classmates.

It was the celebration for the whole class, teacher and pupils alike.

Romeo Montague and Juliet Caputel are a young couple in love. Their families have a conflict each other.

Young people wanted to escape together but... They both tragically died.

This book is very popular in classic literature. There are many theatrical plays and movies about this story.

Great people: Michelangelo.

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was born on March 6, 1475 in Italy. His mother died when he was just six years old. Little Michelangelo Buonarroti lived with nanny.

Since early childhood he was interested in arts. Several years later Michelangelo became a sculptor, artist, poet, and architect.


Michelangelo Buonarroti made many famous High Renaissance works. For example, he painted The Creation of Adam. Also, Michelangelo created famous statue David. Architect designed St. Peter's Basilica with other people in Rome.



Artist made important things for history, rococo style, and XIV century. Michelangelo Buonarroti died on February 18, 1564 in Rome, Italy.

Recipe of homemade fried potatoes with boiled chicken breast.


Ingredients:

Potatoes-7
Chicken breast-500 g
Oil-3 table spoon
Salt-1 tea spoon
Black pepper-pinch


Cut the chicken breast and fry about 5-10 minutes.


After clean and cut potatoes thin.



Add them to the meat.


Fry on the oil during several minutes. At the end add salt and black pepper.
